Day 9...It was a "Blast!"

We were in Fiesta Island today. We lifted off all of our rockets that we've been building. It was awesome!!! Thanks to all the parents who came out to help, watch, take pictures! We all appreciated it.

We go flying tomorrow in Gillespie Field. We'll be flown around by the Young Eagles. BRING YOUR WAIVERS!

Day 8...A Sad Day:(

Today was our last day at the museum together. I hope you all said your goodbye's. It was hard to keep the tears in, I hope no one saw me cry:( Ok, Ok, I'm kidding! Anyways, we had an awesome 5 days there and we have an even more exciting 2 days ahead of us. DON'T FORGET YOUR FLYING WAIVER!!!

Day 7...Viking Rockets!!

Today we build our Viking Rockets. They are going to launched on Thursday, at Fiesta Island! It will be an awesome day!

Tomorrow is our last day at the Air and Space Museum...BooHoo...but still, we have more fun ahead! make sure you bring the Young Eagles waiver in to me. If I don't have it on Friday, YOU CAN'T GO FLYING!!!!

Monday...Day 6

Today was fun. We worked with flight simulators most of the day and used our knowledge of instrument panels and lat/longs to guide us to specific places. Nice work to everyone today!!!

3. If 1 Nautical Mile = 1.15 Statute Miles, the 35.5 Statute Miles = how many Nautical Miles?

Friday's Homework

Day 3...Awesome Aerodynamics

Day 3 was pretty awesome! We had a Celebrity Death Match between Bernoulli vs. Newton. We discussed the difference between several different effects on the wings which make a plane fly. We talked about the Bernoulli Effect, The Newtonian Theory, and finally the Circulatory Effect. Since tonight's homework was to explain these, I won't here. We built several different gliders and we'll let them off tomorrow.

Tomorrow is our first day off campus. We will be leaving school at about 9:15am and getting back at about 3:15 pm. Things to have for our 7 days off campus:

Day 2...Much Fun!!!

Day 2....A Success!!! Whoever said there wasn't enough math and science in this class was dead wrong!!! We learned so much today. We reviewed the "Bernoulli Effect". We discussed the "Venturi Effect" where when you close down an area where fluid is flowing, the fluid must speed up to escape. We reviewed Yaw, Pitch, and Roll when pertaining to airplanes. We discussed whet the term "CG" means and the symbol which looks like the BMW symbol. We tried to lift chairs while discussing "Moment Arm," which is the distance of a weight from the center of gravity.

Here is your homework for tonight:

1. After flying our foam gliders the first time, when improvements did you make and how did it improve or not improve you second flight? Why do you think this?

2. How did we follow the scientific method today? Fill in each step with what we did to test the foam or balsa gliders:

Extra Credit: using the 2 sets of data you should have copied down off the white board, create 1 scatter plot with both sets using "Student names" and the "X" axis, and "Distance" and the "Y" axis. If you can get the graphs on the blog, you earn double extra credit because you'll have to teach me how to do it!
